Thank you to everyone who got in touch with us following our update in January 2025 regarding learner completing 8041-16/17/90 assessment 405/455.
Following a review of all information available, we are extending access to assessment 405 until 31 March 2025. This will be the last opportunity for learners to complete this assessment. After this date no further extensions will be possible.
We are taking this step because we are confident that our 455 tasks provide a more accessible external assessment that empowers learners and supports their success.
We understand that this deadline will affect learners differently based on their current programme of study. To support you in guiding learners completing 8041-16/17/90, we have created an FAQs document to help with preparation.
8041-16 learners who have not yet submitted their 8041-16 405 Task A and Task B.
These learners must submit their completed Task A and Task B to EPA PRO no later than 31 March 2025. We will be unable to accept evidence for these tasks after this date.
Learners unable to meet this deadline will be automatically transferred to the new 455 assessment plan. Internal assessors will need to ensure that learners are supported to prepare for the updated versions of Task A and Task B (i) (ii) assessments, which includes a written report, and a presentation to and discussion with an external assessor. A planning meeting with the external assessor must take place well in advance of submission of evidence for these tasks.
8041-17 learners who have not yet submitted their 8041-17 405 Task B and Task C(i) assessments
These learners must submit their completed Tasks to EPA PRO no later than 31 March 2025. We will be unable to accept evidence for these tasks after this date.

8041-17 learners who have not yet submitted their 8041-17 405 Task B and Task C(i) assessments

8041-90 learners who have not yet submitted evidence for assessment 405.
These learners must submit their completed Tasks to EPA PRO no later than 31 March 2025. We will be unable to accept evidence for these tasks after this date. Learners unable to meet this deadline will be automatically transferred to the new 455 assessment plan. Internal assessors will need to ensure that learners are supported to prepare for the new external assessment process, which includes a written report, and a presentation to and discussion with an external assessor. A planning meeting with the external assessor must take place well in advance of submission of evidence for these tasks.
Will my learner still be able to claim recognition for prior learning (RPL)?
· Completion of 405 in legacy 8041-16 is fully equitable to new -455
· Completion of 405 in legacy 8041-17 is fully equitable to new -455 PROVIDED the assessment for unit 416, 417 or 419 has been completed successfully.
· Learners completing legacy 8041-90 will need to successfully complete all 8041-17 assessments in order to progress directly to 8041-16 Task C
Learners completing legacy 8041-90 who are undertaking external assessment simultaneously for both component qualifications
Learners who have not yet successfully attained 8041-17 Task D, can continue to claim RPL 8041-17 Task B to meet the requirements for 8041-16 Task A (legacy or new), but must complete the full task requirements for 8041-16 Task B (455).
Alternatively RPL to 8041-16 can be delayed until 8041-17 Task D has been successfully completed
What will be expected if my learner completes the external assessment for 405 but is not successful?
Learners who submit their 405 Task to EPA PRO by 31 March 2025 but are subsequently unsuccessful, will be expected to complete the new 455 assessment, and the assessment process will follow the new requirements. This means that should the learners subsequently also fail 455, they will be able to retake that assessment.
If my learner has already failed 405 and is preparing for a resit, can they switch to the 455 assessments?
If your learner is unable to submit their completed 405 resit tasks by 31 March 2025, they will be automatically transferred to the new 455 assessment plan.
