Level 4 HSC and CCPLD qualification updates

We are pleased to confirm that our proposed updates to some of the City & Guilds Level 4 assessment tasks have been approved by Qualifications Wales.

The updates will be live from September 2024 and cover the assessments for the following qualifications:

  • 8040-08 Level 4 Professional Practice in HSC
  • 8040-09 Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in HSC
  • 8041-16 Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in CCPLD
  • 8041-17 Level 4 Professional Practice in CCPLD

These updates vary depending on the qualification and are common across all four of the qualifications listed above.

  • The introduction of a first time retake attempt, rather than a full resit of the assessment (non-scenario tasks only)
  • The introduction of approximate word counts
  • The creation of a separate candidate pack with a clear outline of the marking criteria, to ensure transparency for all candidates of the expected pass criteria

We have introduced some additional changes to both of the Level 4 CCPLD qualifications. These relate to 8041-16 Tasks A and B and 8041-17 Tasks B and C only, and include:

8041-16

  • Enforcement of the key areas of focus through coverage in Task A(i)
  • Revision of Task B(i) to focus on a minimum of one of the key areas of focus
  • Revision of Task B(ii) to be a presentation and discussion about the evaluation report produced in Task B(i)
  • Removal of the project plan (formerly Task Bii) as a separate piece of assessment evidence

8041-17

  • Enforcement of the key focus areas through coverage in Task B(i)
  • Revision of Task C(i) to focus on a minimum of one of the key areas of focus
  • Revision of Task C(ii) to be a presentation and discussion about the evaluation report produced in Task C(i)
  • Current Task C(ii) will become Task C(iii) and continues to be internally assessed

When can I access the most up-to-date version of the qualification assessment information?

Version 2.0 of the qualification assessment packs are now available on the relevant qualification pages of the website:

What do I need to do if one of my existing learners wants to change to the amended assessment approach?

8041-16/17 CCPLD Learners who have already started their assessment journey can choose to:

  • continue with the original assessment approach, (identified within Pro as 405) OR
  • change to the amended assessment approach (identified within Pro as 455)

You will need to liaise directly with @WelshQualifications to confirm which assessment option has been selected by each CCPLD learner.

What do I need to do for registered learners who have not yet started their assessment journey?

All new 8041-16/17 CCPLD learners who have not already booked their external assessment will automatically be expected to progress via the amended assessment approach (identified within Pro as 455).

If a learner in this group would prefer to complete the original 405 assessment, please confirm this with @WelshQualifications. Please note that we will need to manually transfer any learner who has chosen this option.  We will always seek to achieve this transfer as quickly as possible.
