September 2022 Newsletter: Level 3 HSC: Principles and Contexts

Arrangements for summer 2023

Unit 2 Factors affecting individuals’ growth and development across the lifespan and how this impacts on outcomes, care and support needs

Unit 5 Supporting individuals at risk to achieve their desired outcomes

As announced by Qualifications Wales in May 2022, WJEC will be providing Advanced Information for the written external assessment as we did in January 2022 and summer 2022. These will be released in the autumn term for January exams and in the spring term for summer exams and will follow a very similar format to previous versions. Just to reiterate this is to help focus learners’ revision, we still recommend all the content is taught for these units.

Resources

  • Knowledge Organisers – very useful for delivery or revision or for a starting point for creating your own knowledge organisers.
  • Resources to help with the teaching of unit 6 will also be available in September.
  • Principal Examiner / Principal moderators reports from summer 2022 series are now available, and we highly recommend you read these carefully (and your centre reports available on results day) as they offer helpful observations and commentary on candidates performance this series that could help future learners moving forward.

Professional Learning

We are looking forward to seeing you all face to face (or online) and being able to give you feedback on the 2022 series, highlight the good practice we have seen and advise you on delivery, marking of assessments, share resources etc.

Booking is open via the website.

Changes to Specification

The stimulus material for the following units will now be accessible through our secure website www.wjecservices.co.uk from the first Monday in September each year:

  • 4973U1: Principles of care and safe practice within outcome focused person-centred care

The requirement for direct supervision has been removed from some assessment tasks in units:

  • 4973U3 Promoting the rights of individuals across the lifespan
  • 4973U6 Working in the health and social care sector

Please see full details including table which provides a summary of the controls for each of the nonexamination assessments.

Candidates will now be allowed two resits of each external examination. This means that candidates will have three attempts in total.
